This 18th century farmhouse rests on the side of a hill surrounded by olive groves
and oak forests. The 25-acre property takes full advantage of the valley-view towards
Cortona. The house spans three floors and has been lovingly restored. There are many
original features such as stone walls, open fireplaces and wonderful oak beams; the
furniture is all antique Italian.
On the ground floor, you enter Il Castagno through a large split-level living and dining room with fireplace. A wooden (rail-less) stairway leads upstairs to the first floor salotto and bedrooms. Through the living room, you find the gourment kitchen-- a cook's Italian dream. The kitchen is well appointed for entertaining with
a dishwasher, food processor, espresso machine and two large refrigerators, and has French
windows opening onto a garden and covered dining terrace.
The first floor (remember: in Europe the first floor is what we Americans call the second floor) consists of a salotto, or sitting room, a veranda, two bedrooms and two baths. The salotto has a television, VCR, stereo and fireplace. The veranda has steps leading down to the back garden. The elegant master suite has a king bed, dressing room with closets, and its own en-suite bathroom with bath/ shower, washbasin, bidet, and toilet. The second bedroom contains two twin beds that can be joined together as a double bed. There is another full bathroom with shower, washbasin, bidet, and toilet.
The second floor consists of a cheerful bedroom with three twin beds (two can be combined as a double bed) and an en-suite bathroom with shower, washbasin, bidet, and toilet.
Il Castagno's luxurious amenities include a large in-ground
pool, lighted tennis court, TV, VCR, video library, stereo, washing machine. Three
hours of daily maid service is also included and the maid is always available to cook
and help you with any personal requirements for an extra charge. There is a charming garden annex near
the house that can sleep two, or be used as a game room.
